• What classes does Metro North ABE offer?

    Your experience, interests and dreams are important for your learning at Metro North ABE. You will use information about yourself to develop an individualized plan of study that leads directly to your goals. We offer a wide range of classes and programs to help adults meet their educational goals.

    • English as a Second Language (ESL): helps build English skills including reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
    • ABE classes: a variety of classes are offered to help with basic reading, writing, and math skills, preparing for the college entrance exam (Accuplacer), and GED® preparation. Specific ABE classes include:
    • GED® Preparation: Help prepare for the GED® test series and build skills in reading, writing, and math.
    • College entrance brush up: Prepare for the college entrance exam (Accuplacer) and build skills in reading, writing, and math.
    • Basic reading, writing, and math brush up: Brush up on basic academic skills to help keep or obtain employment or get ready for college or training.
    • Adult Diploma Credit Recovery: Earn credits to complete a high school diploma. Requirements include:
      • Must be 18 years old or older
      • Student's high school class must have already graduated
      • Must meet minimum assessment scores
    • State Diploma: Earn a diploma from the state of Minnesota by completing academic skills called competencies. High school credits and work experience may count toward earned competencies. Requirements include:
      • Must be 19 or older (but recommended for students 21 years or older)
      • Must meet minimum assessment scores
    • ATI TEAS Test Prep
      The ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is a test produced by Assessment Technology Institute (ATI), designed specifically to assess a students’ preparedness entering the health science fields. TEAS is used by nursing schools and other healthcare schools to help assess students' knowledge in math, science, English and reading. 
    • Work Readiness for Healthcare Careers prepare for a job as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Caregiver, Personal Care Assistant (PCA), Patient Care Aide, Resident Care Assistant or Home Health Aide.

    *Throughout the year Metro North ABE offers additional classes for enrolled students at our locations including Pronunciation, Conversation, Citizenship, etc.
