Level 7 Writing: Book Review Not Even Bones
by Betty A.
If you're interested in reading dark fantasy, then I suggest reading the book Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer. It is the first book in an exhilarating series, followed by Only Ashes Remain and When Villains Rise. The story begins with Nita, a 17-year-old supernatural, a being with superpowers, working with her mom, also a supernatural. Her mother brings the bodies of bad supernaturals that her mother killed. Nita's job is to dissect them, put them into jars and sell those parts to the black market, which is equivalent to the dark web. Nita seemed to be okay with this until her mother brought a live specimen: a scared teenage boy. When Nita realizes that her mother is getting out of hand, she releases the boy without her mother knowing. But her "good deed" came with a cost. And that was being captured and taken to the black market. As the story goes, she makes new friends with different supernatural abilities and enemies from different black market organizations. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into dark and scary stories or just into fantasy books in general.
