National Teacher Day- May 8, 2018
Each year we are fortunate to celebrate the outstanding leadership and dedication our teachers give each day to our students. We know their work as teachers has life-long affects on the lives of our ABE students and the volunteers working alongside them.
This year, on National Teacher Day, we wanted to share some special highlights from our volunteers. We reached out to our volunteers and received some wonderful sentiments celebrating our ABE and ESL teachers.
The work our teachers put into each student and their experience with education does not go unnoticed!
"I've worked with Donna E. for a year and a half, and am inspired by her dedication to her students as much as the students are dedicated to their studies. I appreciate the work she does, as do her students." - Brian Mann
"I have assisted with many of Polina's classes at all levels during the nine years I have been a volunteer at the [Blaine] site. I have been amazed and impressed with her preparation, organization and consistency during this time. Her students have all benefited by her unique teaching style and look forward to her classes. Polina brings great enthusiasm to the classroom that inspires the student to better learn." - Rick Wriskey
"We have observed and worked with Polina Huffman in her classes for about 7 months. She is always so well-prepared for her students as well as for her volunteers. The lessons we help her with are interesting and useful. In addition, especially in the first-level class, she shows a great concern for being sure all are following the lessons and understanding them. Beyond that, Polina exudes an enthusiasm and positivity that makes it a real joy to come to BLL every Friday." - Karen and Diane
"I volunteer with Tav Monday mornings and have been impressed by the connections he exhibits with his learners. Not only are his lessons well prepared and understandably presented, but he takes time to move around the classroom providing individual guidance and encouragement to learners. Tav has a charming sense of humor which helps create a pleasant as well as an inspiring atmosphere for learning…..a huge plus for folks learning the complexities of the English language ! I sincerely enjoy being a part of Tav’s classroom on Mondays!" - A Happy Volunteer, Barb Bray
"Tav, because you learned English by reading a dictionary (who does that?), here are some words to describe you." - Pat Mikrot
